Former Premier League chairman Simon Jordan has heaped praise on Rangers after their 1-0 win over Celtic on Saturday, claiming the result could signal their re-emergence as a force in Scotland.

Ryan Jack was the hero after the midfielder calmly slotted home via a deflection in the first-half, with Steven Gerrard’s men holding on until the end.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan, who has recently revealed he is a Rangers fan [Scottish Sun], has now delivered his verdict on the win on Twitter while making a major claim about the significance of the result.

OPINION

Jordan is obviously delighted with Rangers’ win over Celtic on Saturday, and why wouldn’t he be? The former Premier League chief has recently admitted his love for the club, and their narrow Old Firm win will therefore bring him great joy. More significant though is his assertion that this win could catapult Rangers back to their previous status as a force in Scottish football. Obviously many Rangers fans will argue that the club have always been and will always be a force in Scotland, but you can see where Jordan is coming from. The Gers have been in Celtic’s shadow for the past few seasons, and their failure to secure a recent win over their rivals was hanging over their heads before Saturday. Ryan Jack’s goal saw that hoodoo end, and hopefully they can now push on and establish themselves as a regular contender in the Scottish Premiership once again.
