OPINION
Aston Villa could only manage a 1-1 draw against Preston on Saturday afternoon, with Ahmed Elmohamady’s own goal in the second half cancelling out Tammy Abraham’s opener. Dean Smith’s side could have closed the gap on the play-off places with win at Deepdale, but failed to impress as they laboured to a single point. It is Egypt international Elmohamady who has attracted most of the criticism from fans on Twitter after the match, and that is not really a surprise. The right-sided flyer has failed to hit his best form this season and has been poor when called upon recently. Saturday was no different, and the reaction of fans below tells you all you need to know. Defence is becoming a serious issue for Dean Smith, who needs to sort things out there in January. If he fails to do so then Villa can kiss goodbye to their chances of promotion this season.

No question that Grealish and Tuanzebe are massive losses but the 4 games Jack has missed have seen us revert to 'Steve Bruce' performances. Birkir's miss was unbelievable but at least we had more drive once Whelan was replaced. Elphick and BB MUST replace Elmo & Whelan now.#AVFC
