Leeds United are not likely to pursue a move for Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window despite claims a bid is imminent from Elland Road, according to journalist Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that, after BBC Humberside Sport reported the Whites were expected to launch a multi-million pound bid for his services, Marcelo Bielsa’s men are not about to make an official move for the 5’8″ (source: Transfermarkt) nor are they set to in the winter transfer window in a significant update on proceedings.

It is stated that there are many clubs who are keen on snapping up the 22-year-old after his eight goals and three assists this season.

Opinion

Just as Leeds fans were handed some hope for January, Beren Cross snatched it away from them. However, you can understand why there should be some pessimism around Elland Road when it comes to the Hull City man. Yes, they might well be interested in his capture but anyone looking for a goal scoring winger in the Championship or lower end of the Premier League are too and as such his form will have likely caught the eye of a number of scouts this season. Do Leeds have the finances to battle against their league rivals? Potentially. Do they have the money to hold off the interest of top flight sides? Not at all. The money the elite of English football have at their disposal is head and shoulders above the Championship’s offerings and so unless Leeds put in a seriously tempting bid to Hull before any top division outfits make a move, they are going to struggle. Maybe if he stays during January and Leeds secure Premier League promotion, then they will have a chance. At the moment it looks more like a wishful signing rather than a realistic target.
