There aren’t many areas where Wolverhampton Wanderers can improve their current side, but a prolific frontman is something that could potentially complete this Wolves outfit.

Attacker Raul Jimenez has been excellent as a workhorse for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team this season, but history tells us that the Mexican’s recent hot streak in front of goal won’t last forever.

Perhaps, then, the club should consider moving for one of Europe’s outstanding strikers over the past few years, Porto star Moussa Marega.

The 27-year-old has been tearing it up in Portugal ever since he joined Porto, and he has long been linked with a move away from the Estadio do Dragao. Just this summer Sky Sports reported that Premier League outfit West Ham were hot on the player’s tail.

It’s Wolves, though, that could use the Mali international more. They lack an elite level goalscorer up front and, even if Jimenez’s form continues, he is only at the club on loan for the season.

Marega is in his prime and has shown himself to be a consistently prolific goalscorer. In 2016/17 he netted 14 times in 31 games. He followed that up with 23 in 40 fixtures and eight assists last term. This season: 11 goals and six assists in 19 matches.

He is elite, both in scoring and in creating. Even if Jimenez stays beyond this campaign, Marega has shown a proficiency to operate as a second striker playing off the main frontman.

A one-two punch of Jimenez and Marega would be devastating for Premier League defenders to deal with. The current Wolves’ star’s ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play would be perfectly complemented by Marega’s relentless appetite for scoring goals.

The Porto man has demonstrated this season that he is not just a flat track bully, either. He’s scored in five out of six Champions League games, doing the business against Galatasaray, Lokomotiv Moscow and Schalke. Not top level sides, but not bad either.

He has done it domestically and he has done it on the continent. Now, with Wolves’ Portuguese connections, he must be given the chance to do it in the most competitive league in the world. Nuno, take note.
