Leeds midfielder Alex Wollerton has joined Darlington FC on a one-month loan.

The 19-year-old signed his first professional contract with Leeds in June last year and has played in the Under-23s side under Carlos Corberan.

The news was confirmed by the official Darlington Twitter page on Thursday evening.

OPINION

The news of Wollerton leaving for Darlington was pretty much swept away yesterday by the bombshell that another midfielder, Samu Saiz, is also on the verge of leaving on a loan with an option to buy. Wollerton is leaving for a very different reason – to pick up experience and many Leeds fans wished him all the best after news of his temporary departure was posted on Twitter. Darlington are currently in need of help. They’re at the wrong end of the National League North and Wollerton will be hoping to make an impact and catch his parent club’s eye before he returns. If he’s looking for inspiration he doesn’t need to look any further than Bailey Peacock-Farrell. The young goalkeeper spent a month on loan at National League North side York between October-November 2017 and broke into the first-team shortly after. Wollerton might not get the sort of break that Peacock-Farrell did, but the links between the academy and the first-team have never been stronger at Leeds, and that’s good for all the youngsters on the books at Elland Road.
