Former Chelsea stalwart Dennis Wise has compared Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Ian Wright and Thierry Henry.

The Gabon international struck again twice against Burnley in the Gunners’ 3-1 win on Saturday, and Wise was full of praise for the frontman after the game.

“He reminds me of a cross between Ian Wright and Thierry Henry,” he told beIN SPORTS. “He has that movement, he has that ability to score with both feet, his naturalness.

“He’s very clever in his thinking, the way that he plays the game. And he’s always in the right place at the right time to finish things off, and he finishes them off well, he really does. His second was a fantastic finish.”

OPINION

This is the highest praise a player can get from an Arsenal perspective. Wright and Henry are the two greatest goalscorers in the club’s history, so for Aubameyang to even be mentioned in the same breath as them is a huge compliment for him and an indication of the impact he has made at the Emirates Stadium. He is the Premier League’s top scorer this season and is banging goals in for fun at the moment. Wright and Henry were both prolific goalscorers, but Aubameyang has possibly made a more instant impact than either of those two men in North London. When Aubameyang is firing it’s incredibly difficult to beat Arsenal, and if he can continue in the same vein that he’s started the season then Unai Emery’s team could go far this campaign. He is a similar type of player to Henry, more so than Wright, and if he ends up accomplishing half of what those two men did for Arsenal then he will have had a fine Gunners career.
