OPINION
Bestikas enforcer Gary Medel would be a decent, albeit underwhelming, signing for West Ham in the January transfer window, and they is apparent by the divided reaction by some of the club’s supporters. Sky Sports has reported that Hammers officials are jetting out to Turkey to negotiate the potential signing of the 31-year-old Chile international ahead of the transfer window re-opening in a couple of weeks. Medel is a player with a lot of experience having played in the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Turkish Super Lig in his career. The ex-Cardiff midfielder also has 116 caps for Chile. He is certainly an experienced player and at 31-years-of-age, he is not that old and could have plenty to offer for West Ham. Manuel Pellegrini needs someone to beef up his defensive midfield options in January and Medel could be a good, short-term fix given Carlos Sanchez’s injury. Medel is definitely better than Sanchez, so this would not be a bad signing.
