COMMENTARY
It seems as though the comments from Hull City boss Nigel Adkins has got many of the Aston Villa faithful delighted as he confirms talks with managerial counterpart Dean Smith over the future of Tommy Elphick. It certainly appears that the centre back might be making his way back to Villa Park in the very near future after his loan with the Tigers and it is easy to understand why. With Axel Tuanzebe adding to what were already real issues at the heart of the defence for the Villans with his injury blow, bringing Elphick back offers at least another body to help alleviate the issue, and it seems it would be a popular decision among the Villa faithful. He has never really looked at ease when starting for the club but his time at Hull, where he has definitely been one of their better performers, shows that it might well have been Steve Bruce rather than the player himself that is the issue. Can he find his feet under Dean Smith and make a real impact to the team upon his return? Only time will tell, but he looks destined to make the move back sooner rather than later.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:
Seems like Elphick is coming back to Villa. If Axel is out for 8 weeks I'd certainly welcome Tommy back as well as bringing back Suliman or Clark #avfc #utv

With Tuanzebe being out until late Feb we need Elphick back and for us to sign Barbet which I think we will as he’s very good at LB and can also play CB! #avfc

I'd like to see Elphick given a chance. Not to bang on about Bruce but Elphick was not the only player at the club whose fortunes suffered during Bruce's reign and he new he was never going to get a fair crack. There's a decent player in there, just needs unlocking.

I don’t think wholesale changes in January is wise. I’d be happy with a LB, DCM and Elphick back off loan.
