Roma have reached agreement with Serie B team Perugia over a deal for former Rangers loanee Umar Sadiq, according to Gianluca di Marzio.

The striker, who has just had his loan deal with Rangers terminated, is set for a move back to Italy with a medical scheduled for Tuesday.

However, the report claims that Sadiq has not yet agreed to the move, although he is leaning towards accepting the decision.

OPINION

It didn’t work out for the 21-year-old striker at Rangers. He didn’t get much of a chance, was criticised explicitly and in public by Steven Gerrard, and had his loan deal terminated officially yesterday when the Rangers boss confirmed he was leaving. He got one big opportunity, in the semi-final of the Scottish League cup against Aberdeen, but infuriated fans and manager alike when he seemingly dived when it looked easier to score in the final part of the game. Perugia are in Serie B and it will be a comedown for Sadiq after the intensity of Rangers but it might well suit his game more and he needs to find a level where he can actually get regular game time. Rangers fans won’t be sorry to see him go and neither will Gerrard after a wholly unsuccessful loan. Gerrard might have had his hand forced in the semi-final, but we still think it was a mistake to play Sadiq then so soon after his public dressing down. Fine margins though – if he’d scored the equaliser instead of going down, he could have been an Ibrox hero.
