Trabzonspor are planning to sign Leeds United forward Caleb Ekuban on a permanent basis after being impressed by his recent performances, according to Taka Gazete.

The Turkish news outlet claims that Ekuban, 24, joined the Super Lig club for a loan fee worth £180,000 in the summer, but they have the option to make his deal permanent for a fee of £900,000 next year.

It is understood that Ekuban would like to stay at Trabzonspor past this season, and the Turkish club’s hierarchy are plotting to trigger the option to buy clause in his temporary deal.

Good move for Leeds?

Ekuban is yet to start a single league game for Trabzonspor but he has made quite an impact when coming off the bench in recent weeks with two goals in his last two appearances.

It is pretty clear that the Ghanaian striker is not good enough for the Whites so if Trabzonspor decide to sign him permanently next year then that is good news for the Championship high-flyers as it gets someone off their wage bill and they pick up a decent £900,000 fee in the process.

Hopefully Ekuban can start more matches between now and the end of the season and keeps up his current good form so that he impresses his boss at Trabzonspor.

Likely to happen?

It surely depends on how well Ekuban plays for the rest of the season because £900,000 is a lot of money for a club like Trabzonspor.

They won’t be willing to pay that cash unless they are sure the former Chievo striker can be a solid addition to their side.

At the moment he has not started a single league game and has three goals in 12 appearances across all competitions, so based on those stats, a deal looks like it is unlikely.
