Tottenham Hotspur have long needed a supplementary frontman to assist talisman Harry Kane, and Bournemouth attacker Callum Wilson could be just the man.

The Cherries attacker has taken the Premier League by storm this season, bagging eight goals in 16 league games for Eddie Howe’s side.

Spurs would undoubtedly face competition from Chelsea for the 26-year-old, however, with Blues assistant manager Gianfranco Zola confirming to Sky Sports on Tuesday that his side are interested in Wilson.

Mauricio Pochettino should be doing everything he can to ensure that the England international doesn’t make it to Stamford Bridge; instead he should join the Argentine at Spurs’ new stadium next season.

Wilson would fit in fantastically well with Pochettino’s high octane style of football, and he’s the sort of adaptable frontman who could play on his own up top or alongside Kane.

He would be a massive upgrade on Fernando Llorente, and would genuinely enable Pochettino to experiment with different attacking formations rather than just having Kane up front by himself every game.

A Kane-Wilson partnership with Christian Eriksen playing in the hole behind them would be a nightmare for opposition defences, and would get the crowd at the new White Hart Lane firmly on their feet.

Wilson’s goalscoring record this season is exceptional, but so too is his determination and fortitude in coming back from a serious injury a couple of years ago.

That is the sort of character that Pochettino would love to have at Tottenham, and at 26 years of age Wilson is still young enough for the manager to improve him during his time in North London.

Chelsea certainly have need of a new striker, but Spurs would be crazy not to rival the Blues for such a talented player as Wilson. The Bournemouth frontman could help take Tottenham to the next level.
