Tottenham “ran the rule” over Everton attacker Ademola Lookman when he played in the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

The news outlet claims that the England Under-21 international, who is also eligible to play for Nigeria, impressed after replacing Theo Walcott in the 63rd minute.

Mauricio Pochettino, as quoted by football.london, has confirmed that Spurs’ chief scout Steven Hitchen was at Anfield last week and judging by this report, it was Lookman, 21, who was being watched.

Good move for Tottenham?

Even though Lookman has struggled for football recently, the attacker is still a very highly-rated young player and he has a lot of time to earn a solid career for himself.

Marco Silva has only handed Lookman one start all season, which is not fair by any means, so Spurs should definitely have a look at signing him because there’s a chance that he would be available on the cheap.

However if there is one thing that Spurs do not need in January, it is more right-sided wingers.

Lookman can play on both flanks but Pochettino has plenty of strength in depth in attack when it is central midfielders he needs more than anything.

Likely to happen?

Given the fact that Spurs do not need a player like Lookman, it’s unlikely that they will make a move to sign the Everton fringe player.

If someone like Erik Lamela or Lucas Moura was to leave North London then sure, but there is basically no chance of that happening and Daniel Levy won’t let Pochettino sign players that he doesn’t need.
