Chris Sutton has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard for the job he has done as Rangers manager this season, but the ex-Celtic star still finds it funny how their time at the top of the table was so limited.

The Light Blues went top of the Scottish Premiership by beating Hearts on Sunday as Celtic played in the BetFred Cup final, but their time as Scotland’s leading club was short-lived as they were defeated 1-0 by Aberdeen on Wednesday.

The Hoops were held to a draw at Motherwell, meaning that Kilmarnock are now league leaders and Sutton found a Twitter post about a DVD being released about ‘3 days at the top’ hilarious.

“Steven Gerrard has done a fantastic job so far as Rangers manager… but this did make me chuckle this morning,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Thursday.

OPINION

Everyone will be talking about how Rangers and Celtic both dropped points on Wednesday, whereas everyone should be talking about the job Steve Clarke has done at Kilmarnock. When the ex-West Brom boss took charge at Rugby Park, Kille were bottom of the Scottish Premiership. He took them to a top-half finish last season and now they are top of the table in December. Brendan Rodgers deserves a lot of credit for the work he has done at Celtic, but Clarke is surely a shoe-in for manager of the season if he can keep this up and secure a top-three finish. He has every chance of coming second if the Gers drop off again like they did last term. It won’t be long before a club from England takes a look at hiring Clarke, but he is also being tipped to be Scotland manager one day. Hopefully, for his sake, that never happens because the job at Hampden is a poisoned chalice and it will only serve to ruin his career.
