BT Sport commentator Michael Stewart was blown away by Allan McGregor after the goalkeeper made a stunning save to deny Arnauld Djoum in Rangers’ 2-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.

McGregor, 36, has been in stellar form for the Light Blues this season and although he failed to keep a clean sheet in Edinburgh, the result could have been very different if it wasn’t for his performance in between the sticks.

Ex-Hearts star Stewart was stunned by his save in the first-half when he tipped Djoum’s effort over the bar, although he does believe that Connor Goldson’s positioning could have been better in the build-up.

“It’s a world class save by Allan McGregor,” said Stewart during the first-half of the Scottish Premiership clash on BT Sport 1 on Sunday. “Absolutely terrific save.

“I don’t know why Connor Goldson’s staying in there and playing everybody onside but you can speak highly enough about McGregor’s save there.”

OPINION

What else is there to say about McGregor? The Rangers goalkeeper has been superb this season. If you were going to criticise him for something then it would be for when he could have gotten himself sent off against Celtic and Aberdeen earlier this season, but other than that he has been phenomenal. Steven Gerrard signed a lot of players in the summer but you have to say that McGregor has been the best at this stage of this season. Ryan Kent, Ovie Ejaria, Scott Arfield and Connor Goldson have impressed, but none of them have performed as consistently well as McGregor, who has basically been a brick wall in goals. Gerrard has got the best out of the Scotland international, who was looking as though his career was close to ending at Hull. However a return to Ibrox has shown that the 36-year-old could easily play well into his 40s and help Rangers get back on top of Scottish football.
