Alan Shearer was blown away by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s “brilliant” finishing in Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Burnley at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Aubameyang, 29, scored his 11th and 12th Premier League goals of the season to take the lead in the race for this season’s golden boot.

Newcastle legend Shearer took to his personal Twitter account during the game to heap praise on the Gabon international, whose finishing proved crucial in a sold three points for the Gunners.

“Another brilliant finish from the Premier League’s top scorer Aubameyang,” he said.

Aubameyang has been quiet since he scored a brace against Tottenham at the start of the month, but the Arsenal forward was back on top of his game with a couple of top-notch finishes against Burnley on Saturday. It is no surprise to see Shearer waxing lyrical about the former Borussia Dortmund star, who was shown a clinical edge in front of goal that he would have been proud of during his playing career. It was a good way for the Gunners to bounce back after losing to Spurs in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, and a good result to get going into the congested festive schedule. On Boxing Day the Gunners play Brighton, which should be an easy win, before travelling to Anfield to play Liverpool next Saturday. That is a huge game for Arsenal and one that they will be aiming to win so that they can show that they are top-four contenders this season. Unai Emery has done a good job at the Emirates so far, but the next month will be a massive test for him.
