Rangers have made Everton’s Kieran Dowell their immediate number one target for January and have held talks with the Premier League club, according to the Four Lads Had a Dream blog.

Four Lads, an extremely reliable source of Rangers information, has claimed that Rangers have been in talks with the Premier League side and that the England Under-21 international is exactly what the club need.

“It’s easy to see why the manager is looking to add Kieran Dowell and is his number one immediate target for January,” Four Lads said.

“The Everton England under 21 international has been pinpointed as the man to replace Ovie Ejaria who cut his loan short and returned to Merseyside.

“Dowell is a natural number 10, more attacking than Ovie naturally was and perhaps almost more significantly loves a shot from outside the area. Exactly what the squad are missing and require. Rangers have already been in discussions over this so it will be interesting to see if any deal can be done.”

OPINION

This would be a fantastic move for Rangers and it would surely be a great move for Dowell as well. He’s only had two games in the EFL Cup for Everton this season and hasn’t been on the bench in the league since the start of the campaign. He’s a way off getting anywhere near the Premier League and a club like Rangers would be perfect for the 21-year-old. He’s already proved himself at the Championship level in the UK – scoring 10 goals for Nottingham Forest in the 17/18 season. And the attacker is versatile, playing through the middle or out on either side. With all due respect to Ovie Ejaria, he’d be a massive upgrade on the player who showed glimpses but ultimately couldn’t hack life in Scotland. Dowell is naturally more attacking and that’s what Rangers need – a player who can pull the strings but also chip in with the crucial goals that could see Rangers shock Celtic and win the Premiership title this season.
