Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is facing some tough decisions ahead of their derby day clash against Celtic on Saturday as injury problems leave him scratching his head.

There is no more important date in the calendar at Ibrox or Parkhead than when the two Glasgow rivals go head-to-head and the final game of 2018 for both teams is no different.

Not only is the rivalry and bragging rights at stake but the pair are both battling it out at the top of the table in a title hunt, the Hoops currently leading the rest of the pack.

Gerrard would love to overcome the Bhoys but he has a first team headache to contend with, with the likes of Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield and Gareth McAuley all doubts after their respective injury blows.

However, while Goldson is expected to miss out after injuring himself against Hibernian on Boxing Day, McAuley and Arfield are expected to make their return to the starting XI in just two changes for the Light Blues, Ryan Jack the other to drop out.

Some might have expected Gerrard to rotate things but when such a crucial game is upon them the manager has to name his strongest line up, which would have included Goldson, a favourite of the boss, had he not hobbled off against Hibs.

It means McAuley partners Joe Worrall at the heart of the defence, James Tavernier and Andy Halliday flanking the back four.

In midfield Canadian international Arfield can be expected to join Ross McCrorie and Lassana Coulibaly, while up front Alfredo Morelos should be flanked by Glenn Middleton and Daniel Candeias in a familiar line up for the Light Blues.
