Former Celtic star and popular pundit Chris Sutton has managed to include just one Hoops player in his Scottish Premiership team of the week as Rangers dominate after their derby day win.

The Gers secured bragging rights as well as an important three points on Saturday thanks to Ryan Jack’s goal in the 1-0 victory, a result which leaves the two Glasgow rivals level on points at the top of the table.

Jack was one of five Gers stars named among the XI, chosen by Sutton and BT Sport presented Darrell Currie, with Andy Halliday, Ross McCrorie, Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent the others, Steven Gerrard chosen as the manager.

As for Celtic, only goalkeeper Craig Gordon made it into the side after pulling off some fine stops at Ibrox, with Sutton saying on his personal Twitter account: “Here it is the moment of the week you’ve been waiting for… TOTW with ?Darrell Currie. Hard to argue with this?”

Opinion

There is little questioning that those Rangers stars included in Sutton’s team of the week deserve to be there but those who have been left out might be feeling a little hard done by. The Light Blues were outstanding to keep their fierce rivals quiet over the 90 minutes at Ibrox and every man played his part in ensuring that the three points remained in the blue half of Glasgow. Gordon was the only Hoops player who came away with any sort of credit after the game and had it not been for his efforts between the sticks the Gers might have been out of sight a lot sooner than the full time whistle. It was reminiscent of the performance Allan McGregor out in for Rangers in the first meeting between the two sides this season and this could prove to be the season of the Old Firm goalkeepers if the early meetings are anything to go by. Sutton and Currie have got their selection spot on this time around, with Kent and Halliday the stand out performers for the Gers.
