Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that he was absolutely fuming with his stars as he confirmed what was said in the dressing room at half time against St Johnstone.

The Gers went into Sunday’s clash 1-0 down thanks to a late first half goal for the home side but managed to turn things around with a brace from striker Alfredo Morelos, his second coming five minutes from full time to seal all three points.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard has revealed what was said in a fiery half time rant, insisting he was livid with what he had seen from his players.

He told the Daily Record: “The first half wasn’t good enough all over the pitch. We were awful. Nobody did the shirt justice, nobody looked like a Rangers player to me.

“I had to have the honest conversation with them at half-time. I let my feelings be known clearly. I had to tell them what the fans thought of them because you could hear their reaction at the end of the first half.

“There was no hairdryer in there. But if there was one…I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I’m just saying that, if there was a hairdryer in there, it would have been used.”

Opinion

Gerrard might not have had Sir Alex Ferguson as a manager during his time as a player but it certainly seems as though he has borrowed a tactic or two of the Scottish legend during his time in management. He was absolutely right to tear into his players though, for they were a million miles off the standards that have come to be expected of Rangers players this season. They were abysmal from top to bottom but it seems as though his half time rant gave the players the kick up the backside that was needed. Their second half performance was a massive improvement and while some might argue they did not deserve to leave St Johnstone with all three points, the fact of the matter is that they forced the issue and turned the game on its head. However, if they perform like this again they might not be lucky enough to be within touching distance of the opposition to turn things around in the second 45 minutes. Gerrard needs to figure out why they were so atrocious and make sure it does not happen again any time soon.
