BBC Sport pundit Tam McManus has praised Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie for his goalscoring contribution against Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Scotland international opened the scoring against his former side in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park, converting at the second attempt to fire the ball into the roof of the net.

McManus was impressed with his efforts: “[Graeme] Shinnie falls asleep for a split second and gets done by the Christie run,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Ryan takes his goal really well though when [it] comes back off [the] keeper.”

OPINION

Christie is certainly in a rich vein of form for Celtic at the moment, isn’t he? He’s been scoring goals with regularity in recent weeks and he continued that trend against Aberdeen on Sunday. He’s now showing that he is a big game player, not just a flat track bully. He can make key interventions in important fixtures and that was demonstrated again in Sunday’s cup final. He wasn’t able to put the ball in the back of the net at the first time of asking but stayed alert to ensure that he was successful at the second attempt. His touch was beautiful from the initial ball over the top from Dedryck Boyata and he went on to put Brendan Rodgers’ side in front in the showpiece event. McManus was clearly impressed with his efforts and you can understand why. The 23-year-old is a key player for the Hoops and is undroppable for the team now.
