Scott Brown’s move to Australia is on after Western Melbourne were granted an A-League license, according to the Scottish Sun.

The report says that after they won their battle to move into the top-flight, they will accelerate their efforts to bring Brown to the club.

And they’re set to offer him a “lucrative three year deal to make Brown their marquee signing.”

Brown also has interest from MLS sides Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United, but according to the Scottish Sun, Brown hasn’t had a firm offer yet from anyone, including Celtic.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers admitted he might be read to move saying, “He is getting towards that cycle in life now where he may want to look at other things.”

OPINION

Brown is out of contract in the summer and free to talk to overseas clubs in January. Melbourne look like the first club to break ranks and make an offer and it must be tempting to take a life-changing offer to play out the rest of his career in the Melbourne sun. It seems odd that Celtic haven’t done more to try and make him stay in the face of this interest. We would have thought a one-year extension would have made sense for a player who’s been a great servant for the club. However, we’re not privy to what’s going on behind the scenes at Parkhead. Rodgers has said that Brown could be ready to move and as a lifestyle change, you can see why Australia would be a tempting to move. Brown is 33 and he’s spent over 10 years at Parkhead and in the gruelling Scottish Premiership. If he does decide to go, he’ll leave as one of the most influential players at Parkhead under Brendan Rodgers.
