Former Rangers player Billy Stark believes that Alfredo Morelos’ lack of discipline has come back to haunt his old club.

Morelos was shown his marching orders against Aberdeen last week prior to Sunday’s clash with Dundee, and Stark says that the attacker needs to sort out his disciplinary record, as he is a “big miss” for the Gers when he is not playing.

He added that Morelos being “aggressive” can sometimes be a good trait, but it has ultimately been Rangers’ downfall in the last couple of matches.

“He’s aggressive and that can be good, but it’s come back to haunt them in some respects. He’s certainly a big miss when he’s suspended, he has to sort out his disciplinary record,” he told Sky Sports.

“Nobody would have predicted how tight the top of the table would be, halfway through the season. Fairplay to Celtic, when you win consistently, complacency creeps in. If there’s been one or two signs of that, it’s been stamped out.”

OPINION

A lot of people have weighed in on Morelos’ lack of discipline, including Stark, who is right about it coming back to haunt Rangers at the moment. His moment of madness has cost the team hugely and this was crystal clear in their 1-1 draw with Dundee on Sunday. They barely managed that many shots on goal for the entire game, which is baffling when you consider that Dundee were bottom of the league going into the clash, and played with ten men for the majority of it. The reason for this lack of attacking threat – Morelos. Having scored 17 goals in all competitions for the Gers, his potency in front of goal was severely missed, and it can be argued that he is what cost Rangers the three points. It is rather worrying that they struggle to cope without their frontman, but it has made one issue glaringly obvious – they would be in trouble if he ever left.
