Rangers are keeping tabs on Gillingham goal machine Tom Eaves as the January transfer window approaches, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reports that the Light Blues are closely monitoring the 26-year-old striker, who stands at a colossal 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt].

Sky Sports claim that Championship teams Preston North End and Blackburn are also in the hunt for the prolific hit man, who is currently the top scorer in League One with 12 goals so far this term.

Good move for Rangers?

It could be.

Eaves is in red-hot form this season, with 13 goals in all competitions for Gillingham, who only sit in 16th place in League One despite his efforts.

The giant frontman looks ready to make the next step up in his career, and Rangers obviously believe that he could possibly make the grade in the Premiership.

That being said, there will still be questions about his ability to make such a move, and the club will no doubt be ironing out the facts in the lead up to the window.

Likely to happen?

It looks to be early stages in Rangers’ hunt for Eaves, so it is hard to say.

Interest from the Championship will make their job harder, with the potential for better wages on offer in the English second-tier depending on his destination.

Time will only tell whether this one comes to fruition for Rangers in January.
