Rangers must beat Rapid Vienna in their final Europa League group match on Thursday to progress to the knockout stages, and Steven Gerrard must make five key changes to make that happen.

The Light Blues know that nothing other than three points will take them through against Rapid, who sit a point and a place above them in the Group G table.

Gerrard’s men will be coming into this one slightly low on confidence after a loss to Aberdeen and a draw against Dundee saw them surrender top spot in the Premiership.

A relatively unfamiliar lineup started against The Dee on Sunday, and Gerrard must bring back some of his regular starters for this one, while also switching up the formation.

In goal, Allan McGregor must start as usual.

In defence comes two changes – Nikola Katic must replace Joe Worrall, while Borna Barisic comes in for Andy Halliday, with Connor Goldson and James Tavernier retaining their places.

Gerrard must opt for two in midfield instead of his normal three, with Rangers needing to take the game to Rapid, with Ryan Jack and Lassana Coulibaly the best choices for a holding role, with Jordan Rossiter dropping out for the Mali international.

In attack comes two further changes, with playmaker Scott Arfield in for Eros Grezda, with Ryan Kent moving to the wing, while goal machine Alfredo Morelos must replace Kyle Lafferty up top, with Daniel Candeias retaining his place on the right flank.

This is a Rangers XI with enough firepower to crush Rapid and secure a famous win which would put Rangers into the knockout stages of European competition for the first time since the 2010/11 season.
