West Ham have slapped a £18million (€20million) price tag on Javier Hernandez to prevent him leaving the club on the cheap this winter, with Real Betis and Sevilla becoming the latest clubs to express interest in the 30-year-old, according to Marca.

The Mexican has already been linked with a January move to Valencia, according to Spanish outlet Sport, and it is understood that the club has been joined by their La Liga rivals in a pursuit of his signature.

According to Marca, the Hammers have set a sizeable ransom for his services in response.

Hernandez has scored four Premier League goals so far this campaign, with three in his last five appearances for the Irons but he isn’t a regular starter.

He has played 106 games for Mexico with a really impressive record of 50 goals.

OPINION

West Ham will be very reluctant to lose Javier Hernandez this winter, especially as the Mexican has just begun to find the kind of form that lead them to sign him in the first place. There are few finishers as naturally gifted as the 30-year-old, and his contribution over the rest of the season could be a vital decider on how far put the table the Hammers are able to finish. The only thing that could tempt the Irons into letting Chicharito go would be a suitable replacement. Rumours suggest that Michy Batshuayi could be an option, bit even if they were able to land the Belgian international, he can’t guarantee them the kind of predatory instinct that makes Hernandez such an excellent proposition. Manuel Pellegrini will be fully aware of his talents and will be eager to keep him at the London Stadium, but will be equally aware of the pointlessness in keeping a player against his will. If Hernandez’s head is turned, he might have to be cut loose, and that would be a crying shame for the Hammers.
