OPINION

Rangers will be left ruing their poor performance against Dundee on Sunday afternoon as a 1-1 draw leaves them dropping two more points in the hunt for the title.

Former Ibrox favourite Kenny Miller came back to haunt the Light Blues with the opening goal, taking advantage of some woeful defending from the Gers back line to poke the ball past Allan McGregor.

However, despite seeing Nathan Ralph sent off for a rash challenge after just 20 minutes and Andy Halliday producing a magnificent free kick to equalise, Steven Gerrard’s men were unable to find another goal and as such lost valuable points in the title race.

So just how did the Ibrox stars perform?

This is Futbol has rated each of the Gers’ stars in Sunday’s showdown:

Goalkeeper and Defence

McGregor – 7 – Very little to do between the sticks and had little chance when Goldson left him short for Dundee’s opener.

Tavernier – 6 – Tried to be a constant threat up the Dundee end of the pitch but his delivery from out wide was lacking for once. Stayed solid at the back when the home side tried to advance.

Goldson – 5 – Usually Mr Reliable at the heart of the defence, only he will know what he was thinking for Miller’s opener. Communication was severely lacking, but aside from that shocker he looked solid.

Worrall – 3 – Unlike his defensive partner, Worrall never improved from his early wobble. Lacking confidence in the back, it would be a serious shock to see him start again any time soon after this woeful outing.

Halliday – 8 – What a free kick. The proximity to the goal made it a difficult strike but he found the perfect accuracy and loft to strike. Was reliable at the back and was a thorn in the side at the other end of the pitch too.

Midfield

Rossiter – 5 – Back into the starting XI but lacking any sort of quality to make the difference against the side sitting at the bottom of the table. He is meant to be something special but this was a very ordinary performance.

Jack – 7 – The Gers might have been lacking the cutting edge but aside from their opener they lacked control and that was thanks to Jack. Does the dirty work for Gerrard and kept a good hold on the game on Sunday.

Kent – 5 – Lasted only 45 minutes on his return to injury and struggled to do anything in that half of football. He did show his talent from the midfield and up into an attacking role but there was definitely something missing.

Forwards

Candeias – 7 – The only forward who looked like he would make something happen. He was constantly looking to put Dundee to the sword with his pace and trickery and won the free kick which led to the equaliser.

Grezda – 4 – The summer signing has struggled for game time and this performance will not help his cause. He offered very little thoughout and as the scoreline shows, there was no cutting edge.

Lafferty – 5 – What on earth has happened to the Northern Irish hitman? He was tipped to play a massive role on his return to Ibrox but even when Alfredo Morelos is missing, the veteran is not offering what he could. Was unlucky with a first half goal wrongly ruled off for offside, but that was the only moment of note.

Substitutes

Middleton (for Kent 45′) – 6 – Brought on at half time, Middleton struggled to make the sort of impact Gerrard would have been looking for. He managed torment in flashes with his pace but there was no cutting edge.

Barisic (for Rossiter 57′) – 5 – Failed to do too much of note – but that was mainly because Rangers were doing plenty of attacking in the final 30 minutes of the game.

Ejaria (for Halliday 70′) – 4 – Bambi on ice comes to mind when watching the 21-year-old midfielder. There looks like there is a delay between his brain and his feet at times and he did not offer what was expected from the bench.
