Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright has raved about Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli following his display against Leicester City on Saturday evening.

Alli contributed towards the 2-0 victory with a magnificent header from a Son Heung-Min cross, and based on his outing, Wright could not get enough of the 22-year-old, labelling his showing as a “very mature performance.”

He claimed that the young dazzler is starting to recapture the form of the Alli that we saw last season, and Martin Keown even chipped in by saying he is coming into “really good form now.”

“It was a very mature performance from him seeming as [Christian] Eriksen and [Harry] Kane did not start. He is becoming that creative midfielder, and he is supporting Lucas Moura as well,” Wright said on BBC One’s Match of the Day [8/12].

“There was a nice bit of skill from him. This is how he has been playing all day today, and he is coming back to near some of the best that he is capable of doing.”

Keown added: “He deserved that goal. He’s getting better and better, and he is coming into really good form now.”

OPINION

There must not be many positive adjectives left to describe the performance of Dele Alli, but Wright clearly could not have better words for him here. He was magnificent, and sometimes it is hard to remember that he is only 22 right now. Yes, he did look a bit tired after the World Cup at the start of the season, but then again Kane was accused of the same, and look how good he is now. All Alli needed to do was to get into the rhythm of the season again, and he has done just that. This game was arguably the best we have seen from him all season, and Spurs will be laughing if he can maintain that in the long-term. Wright is spot on though – this was a very mature performance, especially in the absences of some of their star players. Bravo, Alli – you were brilliant on Saturday.
