Liverpool will terminate Ben Woodburn’s season-long loan at Sheffield United within the coming days, according to Goal.

The football site claim the Merseyside giants are set to take advantage of a recall option in the deal agreed with the Championship outfit in the summer.

Goal report Liverpool will rip up the loan as soon as the transfer window opens, which is Tuesday of next week.

OPINION

Woodburn scored his first Liverpool goal aged 17 but has learned a valuable lesson during his loan at United. No matter who your parent club or your pedigree, there are no guarantees in football. You have to earn the right to be selected, and it appears that Woodburn, for whatever reason, did not convince Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane. The United manager is a highly respected operator, who has steered his side to fourth in the Championship on a budget that pales in comparison with his club’s rivals. He knows his onions. The writing has been on the wall for this loan for quite some time. Woodburn has returned to Liverpool to play for their Under-23s side twice in recent weeks, and there appears to have been an agreement between the clubs that he can be back on Merseyside full time. Expect an imminent announcement that the loan has been formally terminated at the halfway point of the campaign.
