OPINION
You can see why the Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters were so pleased with midfielder Romain Saiss’ performance in the team’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Friday night. The Moroccan international was terrific in the middle of the park for the hosts at Molineux, providing grit and industry alongside the more cultured figures of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves for Wolves. Those two men both had a bit of an off night but Saiss was excellent. He put himself about constantly, harrying the Liverpool players and generally making life difficult for Jurgen Klopp’s men. He should have scored after Virgil van Dijk had doubled Liverpool’s lead, but apart from that there’s hardly a blot on his copybook. Saiss’ return to the starting line up in recent weeks has seen him produce a number of effective displays, and the 28-year-old now appears to be a must for Nuno Espirito Santo moving forward. Certainly, he didn’t do his chances any harm against the Reds.

Can’t knock the effort tonight against a top @LFC side! VVD makes the game effortless & salah & firminho are different gravy! MOM for wolves for me was Saiss. Outstanding shift! ????? @Wolves

Competed well tonight , thought jiminez was superb 1st half, saiss also had a good game but neves form is slightly concerning. VvD was absolutely fantastic, one of the best around. Liverpool will take some beating #wwfc #LFC

Wolves gave a good account of themselves tonight. Difference was the quality in final third & class of Salah & Van Dijk. Saiss possibly the pick of our players & Doc caused them problems down the right first half. We never gave up & are still learning. LFC are where we're aiming

Saiss asking Salah about his shirt at HT was dissapointing but he had a damn good game, as did Boly, Coady and Jonny who were the stand outs for me #wwfc

Difference between us and Liverpool was the clinical edge in front of goal. Cant fault the performance, we just didn’t take our chances and they capitalised on our individual errors and did. Thought Saiss was superb tonight. On to Fulham Boxing Day ? #WWFC pic.twitter.com/odZldnSnPf
