Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that they have agreed a historic commercial deal which will see their training ground sponsored by owners Fosun International.

The Molineux outfit took to their official Twitter account and website to reveal that the Compton training centre would be renamed the ‘Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground sponsored by Fosun International.’

The deal, which was agreed prior to the start of the new season but announced on Monday, as the club waited for construction and development to finish at the complex, is the first time the club’s training ground has ever been sponsored and will also see Fosun advertise around Molineux.

Opinion

This is hardly much of a surprise, is it? Fosun – or at least individuals who are involved at the highest level of the company – own Wolves and so it is basically free advertising for them. Alternatively, signing this deal goes to demonstrate the impact that naming rights can have with a view to future investment and sponsorship opportunities. Of course, Molineux is the big one and it is good to see that the owners chose not to follow the likes of the Amex Stadium or the John Smith’s Stadium – for it would have been as ill-judged as Mike Ashley naming St James’ Park the Sports Direct Arena was. Fosun have brought Wolves plenty of joy with their investment the transfer window, bringing some of the most exciting talent ever seen by the fans, but also in the facilities, with the multi-million pound development at the newly named training centre likely to have a big boost of the club’s future.
