BBC Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker and Danny Mills heaped praise on 18-year-old midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White after a stunning performance as Wolves beat Chelsea 2-1 at Molineux.

Wolves came from behind to stun the west London giants and they were good value for their three points.

Gibbs-White has been used sparingly so far this season but he got his first league start on Wednesday and had a huge say on the result.

Talking on Match of the Day (BBC1, Wednesday, 10.45pm), Lineker started the ball rolling as soon as the highlights were over.

“What a performance from that young man making his first start,” Lineker said. “We’ve seen glimpses of him… Morgan Gibbs-White, remember that name, what a talent.”

Danny Mills agreed with Lineker, saying, “You can’t help but get excited about him. He’s got the lot. For someone so young he’s got the lot, confidence and work ethic.

“He can dribble, he’s strong and his awareness is incredible. He rarely makes the wrong decision. he’s such a talent. The future is bright. I love seeing young players with confidence. And I really believe he’s going to be a sensational player.”

OPINION

Gary Lineker doesn’t often play the pundit on Match of the Day, preferring to sit back as anchor and let the others make the subjective calls, but he couldn’t help himself on Wednesday night. He declared that Gibbs-White was a huge talent and Danny Mills agreed with him. The little we’ve seen of Gibbs-White before tonight was enough to convince us that Wolves have got something special. He transformed the game against Tottenham almost single-handedly. Nuno is obviously avoiding over-exposing him and it’s easy to forget that he’s only 18-years-old, but he proved tonight that he’s got more than enough for the Premier League and we think the genie is out of the bottle. Nuno is going to have to play Gibbs-White more – if he’s good enough, he’s old enough surely? Wolves had been on a terrible run before Wednesday night’s game and Gibbs-White was a big reason that Nuno’s side took all three points off Chelsea. We think we’ll be seeing a lot more of him in the near future and we don’t think anyone will have any problem remembering his name soon.
