Former England international Gary Lineker has praised Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White after his performance against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The youngster came off the bench in his team’s 2-1 victory over the Magpies and immediately added fresh impetus to a stuttering Wolves side.

His performance earned him the Lineker seal of approval as the Match of the Day host purred over the 18-year-old on his personal Twitter account.

“Goodness me Morgan Gibbs-White can play. Great to see so many wonderfully talented young English players coming through,” he said.

OPINION

Lineker is bang on the money, here. Gibbs-White made his first Premier League start in the mid week victory over Chelsea but had to settle for a spot on the bench at St James’ Park on Sunday. That clearly served only to spur him on once he entered the fray, as he produced a performance brimming with quality and energy. He made a huge difference once he came on and Nuno Espirito Santo really has to think about recalling him to the starting line up against Bournemouth on Saturday. Lineker’s point about the number of young English talents coming through at the moment is spot on as well. There are some incredibly talented youngsters emerging at this moment in time, with Gibbs-White chief amongst them. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice, Ben Chilwell, and James Maddison are all impressing hugely for their respective sides and it’s incredibly exciting for the Three Lions.
