West Ham United are unlikely to make any signings in the January transfer window, according to a Claret and Hugh.

The specialist Hammers site report that the club board do not have the finances to fund a signing of any type, whether big or small.

The report adds that the club are set to lose £30 million to £40 million based on their own estimates and do not have the money to sanction any sort of move, with the Football Fair Play rules also playing a big part.

OPINION

The fact that West Ham are unlikely to be making any signings in the January transfer window will no doubt baffle a lot of fans right now. Their left-back situation is dire, and the right-back role could really do with some reinforcements seeming as Ryan Fredericks is injured. Many would have thought that Manuel Pellegrini would be desperate to sign some new faces in the New Year – after all, they have not had the best of luck in terms of injuries to some of their main players. However, whether this will actually be the case in January remains to be seen. Who knows whether Pellegrini will be tempted by at least one swoop? Yes, £100 million was spent in the summer, but a few of those players are currently sitting on the sidelines. Being active in January would have been wise, but the manager must now prove that West Ham are good enough not to sign anyone.
