Tottenham’s recent injury crisis in the centre of midfield has highlighted just how desperately they need to invest in a good quality player to fill that position, both for now and for the present.

With Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama out, and Moussa Dembele’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have had to rely on Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko in the centre of the park.

Both players have done well enough, but it’s hard to escape the feeling that they are not quite at the level required to sustain a title challenge, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs tried to bring in reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ajax’s Donny van de Beek would be the ideal man to come into the side, and could prove to be an investment that pays dividends for the next decade.

It was previously reported that Tottenham were watching the talented youngster.

At 21, the Dutchman has his entire career ahead of him, and has already been capped by his nation five times.

So far this season he has been an ever present in an Ajax side that are well within touching distance of another domestic title, and that qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Van de Beek has already notched seven goals this campaign, and has chipped in with six assists for his teammates – both decent returns for a central midfielder.

His calmness and assurance on the ball and his all-action style of play would make him the perfect man to help spur Tottenham on to a serious title bid.
