Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Genk over a January deal for Norway international midfielder Sander Berge, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian outlet report that Spurs have surged past AC Milan and Roma in the hunt for Berge in recent weeks, with the Serie A clubs put off by Genk’s £22.5million valuation.

TMW claim that Tottenham on the other hand have not been discouraged by that valuation and has opened talks with the Belgian club ahead of the January window.

It is said that such a deal could be completed in the upcoming window, but Berge would only move to Spurs in the summer window, remaining with Genk on loan in the meantime.

Good move for Spurs?

Absolutely.

Berge is a real up-and-coming talent who looks to be destined for the top, and Spurs would do well to snap him up at this early stage in his career.

The 20-year-old is already a full Norway international, with 12 caps to his name, and while he has not yet played in a major European league, that is only a matter of time.

With the future of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama up in the air, signing a player like the 6’4″ colossus Berge [Transfermarkt] will help to soften the blow of their potential exits.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Tottenham have stolen a march on their rivals for Berge’s signature, but a deal is still a way away.

Meeting Genk’s £22.5million valuation will not be a problem for Spurs, but they may have to deal with competition in the coming days with the window set to open.
