Tottenham are set to axe star man Christian Eriksen for their Premier League clash against Leicester City on Saturday, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim Wednesday night hero Eriksen, who supplied his fourth assist in three games in the 3-1 triumph over Southampton, will be one of five changes to the starting XI for the trip to the King Power Stadium.

The Times report Harry Winks and Danny Rose will also be axed from the team and will drop out along with injured pair Juan Foyth and Kieran Trippier.

Times expected XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Sissoko; Son, Alli, Moura; Kane.

OPINION

It would not be a surprise if Rose or Winks dropped out of the Spurs side to face Leicester, but it would amount to a sizeable shock if Eriksen did. The playmaker has been getting back to his best in recent weeks after a difficult few months of injury and poor form in which he lost his previously nailed-on starting role. Given that the great Dane has started to work his magic again – he followed up two assists against Chelsea by also directly creating goals versus Arsenal and Southampton – it would be a gamble for Mauricio Pochettino to overlook him, despite the obvious importance of next Tuesday’s vital Champions League trip to Barcelona. Rotation has been a fact of life for Tottenham’s key players in recent times – with only Harry Kane regarded as untouchable by Mauricio Pochettino – but there is no player in the squad who has Eriksen’s combination of vision, invention and majesty. It would be a major boost to Leicester if he started on the bench.
