Tottenham have made an approach to sign Roma attacker Cengiz Under ahead of the January transfer window, according to ESPN FC.

The football site claim the north Londoners have “registered their interest” in Under, who is keen to move from Serie A to the Premier League.

ESPN FC report Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also hot on the trail of the winger, 21, and have established contact with his representatives ahead of the January window.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes. Under is a rising star with the potential to become an established one. Roma have sold some outstanding players to Premier League clubs in recent years, not least Mohamed Salah and Alisson in the last two summers, while Spurs also recruited then-record signing Erik Lamela from the Italian capital outfit. Under is a 17-times Turkey international who has earned raves reviews since moving to Roma from his homeland in the summer of 2017. He has scored five goals and assisted six more in 20 appearances this season, and appears increasingly likely to be a major performer on the highest stage in the coming years.

Likely to happen?

ESPN FC report Bayern currently lead the race for Under as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Arjen Robben. What is in Spurs’ favour is that the wide man is keen to move to the Premier League. Moreover, his salary is something that the Londoners can comfortably top. It is said Under earns £900,000-a-year at Roma, equivalent to £17,000-a-week.
