Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that it will be ‘impossible’ for Tottenham to make any signings during the January transfer window.

Spurs failed to recruit at all during the summer, and according to the Argentine, the Londoners are unlikely to add to their roster this winter.

The 46-year-old claimed that the size of his current squad would present any further acquisitions.

As quoted in the Express, he said: “We have a full squad. I think we have 28 in the squad. I think it’s impossible to sign players if we have no space.

“We don’t have enough spaces at the moment, so it makes no sense to talk about signing players.”

OPINION

Tottenham are in an unusual position in the sense that they failed to recruit at all over the summer and yet seem to look the stronger for it. Sunday’s rout of Everton was as impressive a performance as you’re likely to see in the Premier League this year and for the first time this campaign people are beginning to look at the Londoners as genuine title contenders. The reasoning behind this improvement is hard to fathom, but it seems to be the case that Pochettino’s men have grown closer and more difficult to beat through a prolonged period of settled personnel. It’s refreshing to see a team blatantly disregard the accepted manner of doing things and still succeed, and it is testament to the Argentine’s ability as a manager. Realistically, if they want to challenge for a title they probably will need to spend big, but for now they are doing themselves very proud on a relative shoestring.
