Former Arsenal star and current manager of French side Monaco Thierry Henry is in hot pursuit of north London rivals Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele as they Ligue 1 outfit look to pounce on his contract status with Spurs, according to Le 10 Sport.

The French news outlet claim that the side from the south coast principality view the Belgian as the perfect signing to help bolster their midfield and with his contract at Tottenham coming to an end in the summer of 2019 is set for the exit door.

Henry, a fierce rival of Tottenham’s, took over at Monaco earlier this season but has struggled thus far, with his side sitting second bottom of Ligue 1.

Opinion

Tottenham appear to have little choice but to cash in on Dembele this winter and so news that Monaco, who have proven themselves as big spenders in the past and with a desperation to try and improve their season, is a silver lining to his exit. They will likely be seeking an immediate deal in January rather than trying to sign him on a pre-contract deal in order to bolster their side straight away and as such the Lilywhites can demand a fee which benefits them in order to sell him on. He will likely have many suitors come the new year but how many of those will be willing to stump up some cash when they know they can get him for free in a couple of months remains to be seen. Spurs obviously do not want to lose him for nothing and as such they really should welcome Henry – even with his Arsenal connections – into making a bid for the midfield enforcer.
