Tottenham cult hero Ledley King has admitted that he has not shut the door on a return to the club in a senior role after leaving his part-time position as an under-18 coach.

The former centre back is a firm favourite of the north London faithful after his loyal service, which was cut short by the injury issues which plagued him during his career.

Revealing that he had been taking on a role with the youth team at Spurs before leaving the Lilywhites for good, King admitted he had not ruled out the possibility of returning to Tottenham in another senior position.

He told Football.London: “I’m still not sure about that side of the game. I did a couple of days a week with the U18s at Tottenham, which I enjoyed, but I just didn’t feel it was the right time for me.

“Some things are about timing. The game is always a big part of me and it’s always in my thoughts so I’d never say never.”

Opinion

King will always hold a special place in the hearts of Tottenham fans, who will always ask themselves what might have been as injuries blighted what could have been a really promising career. He is still one of the best defenders to have ever played for the club and that was even when he was struggling to train on a regular basis. As such his experience and expertise could prove to be a real asset to the club when it comes to developing the next generation of top talent – but only if it suits him of course. Does it sound likely that he will make a return? Not exactly, but there are so many more positions – some which would not have existed in King’s playing days – at a football club now, which include the likes of education and tactical awareness. He could play a big role in terms of those aspects, offering him something which might well be better suited to his ability and skills now.
