Martin Keown heaped praise on Heung-min Son after he scored in the 3-1 win against Southampton at a half-empty Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night.

Son scored the third goal after Harry Kane and Lucas Moura had put Tottenham two up.

And Keown purred about him on Match of the Day (BBC1, Wednesdya, 10.45pm).

“Son has a list of outstanding qualities,” Keown said.

“He doesn’t get enough credit for what he does… His vision I like, his pace.

“He’s got two goals in the last three games and he’s just starting to come into prominence.

“He’s quite a wonderful talent. He’s got everything you need as a top footballer, he’s got great spirit as well, he must be a joy to play with. He plays with a smile on his face.”

OPINION

Son always plays as if he’s having the best time of his life and he’s a hugely popular figure at Tottenham with players and fans. He never seems to get a regular run of starts in the team and always seems to be the fall guy for Pochettino. However, he has hit a run of form at the moment, with two goals in three games and he’s probably been Tottenham’s best player over that period. We can’t see Pochettino dropping him at the moment and if he keeps scoring and keeps smiling he could turn into a hugely important player for Spurs this season. The three points tonight puts Tottenham back into third in the league after Arsenal leapfrogged them at the weekend. Chelsea lost to Wolves and Arsenal drew with Man United, making Wednesday night a perfect one for Tottenham. They’re now six points behind Liverpool though and eight behind league leaders Man City. Third might be their ceiling this season.
