Tottenham captain Harry Kane believes that his side should fear nobody as they wait to find out who they have drawn in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Spurs had to rely on an 85th minute Lucas Moura strike to secure a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Tuesday night that took Mauricio Pochettino’s side through by the skin of their teeth.

For the most part the Londoners impressed during a positive display, and Kane believes that they must use it as a foundation to kick on in the competition.

As quoted in the Daily Mail, he said: “There isn’t a bigger game than Barcelona away.

“It’s another big step. We know if we get them again, maybe in the later stages, we know it’s in there. We played Juve last year and Real Madrid last year and done well.

“It’s time to step it up and show we can do it in the knockout stages. Who knows how far we can go.

“It’s about belief. We’ve done the hard bit of getting through the group. It’s about trying to get as far as we can.

“I think we’ve shown over the last few years that we’ve earned respect among the big teams in Europe.

“A lot of people were writing us off after three games. We’ve come out of that and showed people the character we’ve got in this team it’s important we give it a big push for the rest of the competition.”

OPINION

Tottenham were brilliant on Tuesday against Barcelona. Granted, the hosts were at not full strength and little to play for, and Spurs did have to rely on Inter Milan fluffing their lines against PSV, but on balance Maurcio Pochettino’s side probably deserved to get through. After being dead and buried after three matches they have fought back superbly, and shown exactly the sort of spirit and character that could take them a long way this season. A lack of investment over the summer was initially touted as a negative thing, but on the face of it, it appears to have helped galvanise a squad that is unified and believes in each other. Realistically, Tottenham probably don’t have enough to win the Champions League, but Kane is not unjustified in suggesting that they shouldn’t fear anybody. On their day, the Londoners can beat anybody, and being the underdog against some of Europe’s elite could actually work to their advantage.
