Harry Kane is confident he can shake off a cold and start for Tottenham in their League Cup showdown against Arsenal tonight (Wednesday), according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Spurs talisman is “raring to go” for the quarter-final clash at Emirates Stadium and doesn’t want to be demoted to the substitute’s bench by Mauricio Pochettino.

The Sun report that manager Pochettino is set to make a “game-time call” on whether to name Kane in his starting XI after he missed training yesterday because he was bed-ridden with flu.

OPINION

Spurs fans will be dancing in the streets if their goal king is included in the starting XI, after Pochettino revealed at his media conference yesterday that Kane had been downed will illness. The manager has showed antipathy towards the League Cup in the past, but has admitted winning the competition would provide tangible evidence of the immense progress made during his soon-to-be five years at the club. Kane has started 16 of Spurs’ 17 Premier League fixtures this season, as well as all six of their Champions League matches, and is due a breather. With a heavy festive programme, Pochettino will not want to take any chances with his main man. That said, the White Hart Lane faithful are desperate for revenge over Arsenal after their recent derby defeat, and the best way of securing a semi-final berth is through playing their best players. If Kane gets the all-clear to play, then Pochettino must start him. This game really matters.
