Tottenham legend Micky Hazard has called for Spurs fans to boycott The Times after its recent coverage of Man United and Mauricio Pochettino.

Hazard was responding to a tweet from a journalist and Spurs fan who linked a spread from the newspaper that speculated on who Pochettino might pick for Man United next season ‘when’ he becomes the new manager at Old Trafford.

Benamram said, “The lack of respect towards Tottenham Hotspur Football Club grows by the day.”

Hazard agreed with him in a series of tweets sent by reply and in one urged Tottenham supporters to, “Boycott that paper, don’t buy it and show them there [sic] behaviour is just plain and simple wrong.”

OPINION

Strong stuff from Hazard who has had his nose well and truly put out of joint by the Times article. It is a bit of a cheeky article that isn’t very respectful to Tottenham, its fans or Pochettino. Spurs fans have already had to put up with endless speculation about whether their manager is going to leave at the end of the season. Pochettino himself has maintained a respectful silence that could either be interpreted as “Nothing to say, stop asking me about other clubs” or a wilful intent not to rule himself out of a job that interests him. The problem is, without ruling it out, the speculation will carry on until the end of the season or Man United announce a new manager. That could be really harmful for Tottenham and its players. Either way, this isn’t good news for Tottenham and articles like this will carry on being trotted out because they sell copies.
