BBC pundit Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Tottenham forward Son Heung-min after his brilliant performance against Leicester on Saturday night.

Crooks put Son in his Premier League Team of the Week after a display that saw him score a brilliant solo effort and set-up the other Spurs goal for Dele Alli.

Writing on the BBC Sport site, Crooks said, “This lad is back on top of his game. He scored a fabulous goal against Leicester before putting Tottenham’s second goal on a plate for Dele Alli.

“When Son plays, his pace gives Tottenham a dimension they lack without him. Two seasons ago he was the most improved Premier League player. Now he’s the most improved Premier League finisher.”

OPINION

Whenever Tottenham need him most, Son steps up. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves all the time and quite often he’s the fall guy for Mauricio Pochettino, but Crooks is bang on when he says that he gives the side a dimension they just don’t have without him. With Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane on the bench, rested for the massive game against Barcelona in midweek, Son was the difference maker on Saturday. Alli had a fine game but Son looked imperious, controlling the player and single-handedly turning the game in Tottenham’s favour. It’s all about managing the players for Pochettino. Fans might have been shocked to see the line-up but the fact he can win 2-0 away from home with his two best players on the bench is testament to Pochettino’s skills as a coach. And, in the absence of these two huge players, Son was the best player for Tottenham in a win that will have been very satisfying for Pochettino, who didn’t have to explain his line-up to journalists after the game.
