Sam Allardyce has warned Tottenham not to move into their new stadium this season, after yet another delay to the opening.

The BBC reported yesterday that the Premier League game between Tottenham and Man United would be played at Wembley with the stadium still not ready.

And Allardyce believes that Tottenham would suffer if they make the move before the end of the season.

“If I was Mauricio, I would tell Daniel Levy that I don’t want to move into the new stadium until next season,” Allardyce said on the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on talkSPORT.

“You walk straight into another new stadium, and while it’s on the same land, it’s all brand new, the familiarity is missing.

“Spurs suffered badly when they started playing at Wembley. Now they’ve got to grips with it and they’re playing a lot better.

“They could well suffer because of that. Mauricio needs to be strong and say I want to stay at Wembley.

“It’s a big, big decision.”

OPINION

The stadium saga drags on as yet another target for opening passes. It can’t be having a positive effect on Tottenham and the uncertainty looks to drag on and on. Allardyce makes a good point. Tottenham have enjoyed their best start to the season in the Premier League and a move to a new stadium for the last couple of months of the campaign is going to seriously disrupt the side. Of course, it could well be financial considerations that dictate when Tottenham move in. Playing at Wembley is costing them money and with the costs on the new stadium spiralling, they may need to move in as soon as it’s declared ready. In an ideal world though, Spurs would make the call now and say that they’ll move in over the summer. The Spurs fans might not like Wembley but sometimes you have to do what’s right for the team.
