Chris Kamara shared that he has texted Southampton attacker Danny Ings after being confused why the forward rubbed his eyes ahead of taking a penalty against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Sky Sports presenter questioned whether the 26-year-old forward was trying to make a gesture to Terriers goalkeeper Jonas Lössl in order to put him off when it came to trying to save the player’s spot-kick.

Ings ended up scoring from the spot to help the Saints defeat Huddersfield Town 3-1 but Kamara was still searching for answers after being left baffled by the attacker’s action in the build up that penalty.

“I’ve texted Danny Ings this morning but he hasn’t gotten back to me, does he move his hands towards his eyes to say to Lossl to give him the eyes?” said Kamara on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday (Sky Sports Premier League, Sunday December 23rd, 11:57am).

“I don’t know what he is doing but he is doing something to say don’t watch the eyes or something then he puts this away as the goalkeeper moves the other way.

“What was he up to?”

OPINION

Ings has not only baffled Kamara but his actions have made the Sky Sports personality sound paranoid to say the least. While the in-form Saints star did clearly move his hands towards his eyes before converting his penalty kit, he may have just had something in them. It was the most over the top gesture so it’s hard to clearly say that it was meant to put off Lossl. If that was the case, then Ings must have been feeling very confident to take such bold action as it would be embarrassing for him if it had backfired and his effort had been save. Yet thankfully for him and the Saints that wasn’t the case as his goal from the spot helped his side move on to another promising victory. Ings has scored seven goals in 13 league games for the Saints this season and if he can stay fit for the rest of the campaign, it’s easy to see how big signing him in the summer from Liverpool will prove to be when it’s all said and done.
