Oliver Skipp is in the Tottenham travelling party for their Champions League clash against Barcelona, it has been confirmed.

The midfielder, 18, was spotted among a host of senior starts jetting out to Spain for the crucial fixture upon which hangs the club’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Skipp joined the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Michel Vorm as the squad and coaching staff led by Mauricio Pochettino boarded the flight for Spain.

OPINION

Skipp has been gradually assimilated into the senior Spurs squad this season after making a big impression at youth-team level. The club have high hopes the academy product can eventually follow Danny Rose and the two Harrys, Kane and Winks, in nailing down a senior spot after graduating from the youth ranks. It is a statement of faith in Skipp that Pochettino has named him in his squad for such a huge match, especially as the teenager has yet to start a single game for the seniors. Both of the 18-year-old’s appearances to date have come as a late substitute, against Southampton in the Premier League last week and against West Ham in the League Cup on his debut on 31 October. Pochettino is an expert at developing and nurturing youthful talent, at Spurs as well as former clubs Southampton and Espanyol. At the very least, the Barcelona trip will be a fabulous learning experience for Skipp.
