Marco Silva needs to show his ruthless side ahead of Everton’s upcoming clash against Manchester City and axe Seamus Coleman from the team.

Coleman adopted his usual position at right-back for the Toffees’ previous fixture with Watford on Monday – which ended 2-2 – but it is safe to say that he had one of his worst displays in an Everton shirt.

Yes, Everton were not on the losing side and were able to salvage a point courtesy of a brilliant free-kick from Lucas Digne, but that does not spare Coleman from any criticism.

Roberto Pereyra proved to be too much for the 30-year-old to cope with, causing the Toffees mainstay all sorts of problems on the right flank.

If he cannot handle Watford’s attacking threat, then how could he possibly handle the world-class talent that City have to offer?

Based on his recent display, that certainly is not the case – and all the more reason why Silva must wield the axe on the defender.

In fact, he did not even have much to offer going forward either, making his case for a start on Saturday increasingly less potent.

City are renound for tearing defences apart, and they may be more lethal than usual this weekend, as they will be gunning to avenge their defeat to Chelsea last week.

Coleman always looks like an accident waiting to happen, and to put it rather bluntly, he is just not up to a match of this magnitude and intensity.

Everton need to get back to winning ways after earning just two points in the last three games, and that simply will not be possible with the Irishman in the starting XI.

The Toffees have a slim chance of getting something against Pep Guardiola’s team, and they certainly do not need a player who will be a liability.

Silva must be ruthless and axe the mainstay, as it is his only chance of a result on Saturday.
