Everton manager Marco Silva could be tempted into selling Morgan Schneiderlin and Oumar Niasse to fund a January move for a new striker, according to the Times.

The pair have both failed to establish themselves in the Toffees’ first team since the Portuguese manager took the helm at Goodison Park, and it is believed that they have both been deemed surplus to requirements.

Schneiderlin has featured just six times in the league this season, while Niasse has been called upon just four times.

Silva will be keen to strengthen his forward line, with Brazilian Richarlison, most usually used as a winger, being deployed through the centre.

Cenk Tosun is the other main option at the Blues’ disposal, but the Turk has struggled for form since signing from Besiktas last January, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin still has some room to grow before he can be trusted with the responsibility of being a main goalscorer.

OPINION

Everton are doing a fine job of slowly and prudently overhauling a squad that for a long time has been weighed down by a lot of deadwood. Since Marco Silva has taken over they’ve assembled a side full quality and style that probably makes them the closest thing to a top six challenger in the Premier League. The one piece of the puzzle that is still missing, however, is a 20-goal-a-season centre forward. As well as Richarlison has done in that central role since his move from Watford, an out-and-out striker, preferably one that would allow the likes of Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson to play off of him could really take the Toffees to the next level. Money doesn’t appear to be an issue on Merseyside these days, but partially funding a move by off-loading the likes of Schneiderlin and Niasse is a wonderful representation of the caution and sensibleness that could take Everton far.
